These are the best songs of 2010.....

Dynamite - Taio Cruz

I came to dance, dance, dance, dance, I hit the floor cause that's my plans, plans, plans, plans.... Who the hell could resist a line like that? So what if it's grammatically incorrect? In a year with a lot of American acts, Briton Taio Cruz was much needed Anglo relief. Brits still rock harrrrrd.

OMG / DJ Got Us Falllin' In Love - Usher

Thirteen years ago, Usher burst on to the music scene with sleek dance moves and even sleeker R&B songs. We must thank our lucky club stars, he hasn't changed a bit. Both of these tracks were club anthems this year. In 2010, everyone wanted to dance like Usher, even old sods who used to imitate him in their bedrooms way back in 1997.

Hey Soul Sister! - Train

Hey ay hey ay yay yay! I bet the singer's heart was pounding right out of his untrimmed chest when he heard his band was nominated for a Grammy. This song is sunshine in a MP3 file, y'all.

Baby - Justin Bieber featuring Ludacris

Leave this precocious boy alone, you music snobs. He may be underaged and has his head up in the clouds, but he's gotta a voice. Only time will tell if he'll end up like an Aaron Carter or Michael Jackson. Till then we can sing-a-long (albeit very embarrassingly) to his infectious "Baby, baby baby ooooooooh...."

You Are The Only Exception / Brick By Boring Brick / Ignorance - Paramore

Clearly I am a fan of this band because I have been listing their songs for the oast three years in my year-end review. They aren't huge but they rock with heart and soul.

If We Ever Meet Again / Gettin' Over You / The Time (Dirty Bit edit) - Timbaland/ David Guetta/ Black Eyed Peas:

You know a song is a hit when it gets a good reaction from people on the dance floor. If people like the song, they will cheer when it comes on, sing along and dance with abandon. These three songs received seals of approvals from patrons of the 9mm club in JB.

The Wicked Offspring by Oh Chentaku / Gadis Semasa by Yuna / Drama King by Meet Uncle Hussein / Ekstravaganza by Bunkface / Syukur by Altimet / What You Waiting For by Mizz Nina featuring Colby O'Donis:

We gotta support the local scene. These tracks were among the very few local songs that I like this year, mostly due to the feel each song has. The songs either make me want to headbang, tap my feet or dance. As in life, they echo our feelings of longing, confusion, anger, joy or anticipation.

Just the Way You Are / Billionaire /Nothin' on You / Fuck You - Bruno Mars

Now here's a good way to make it in the music biz. Bruno Mars wrote a bunch of great songs, and rode on the buzz to earned guest vocals on other people's tracks. Then he wrote an absolutely fabulous track with Cee Lo Green called Fuck You and bam, he's hot property! By the time he released his solo singles "Just The Way You Are" and "Grenade", his voice was so familiar that you felt like you knew him. As a kid, Mars dressed up as Elvis and performed 50s soul and Rock n' Roll in his homestate of Hawaii. This year, he's the familiar voice on Travis McCoy's "Billionaire" and and B.O.B's "Nothin' On You"- both wonder rap tracks. He's bringing the sexy back into pop with his debut CD "Doo Wop and Hooligans", so expect more singles for the new year.

Na Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na)- My Chemical Romance

There was a lack of good rock songs by rock acts this year. During The Year of Hip Hop, the most rock of rockers bombed commercially (exhibit A: Stone Temple Pilots) or signed up for an American Idol stint (Steven Tyler). It was so confusing for rock lovers that for a while, we thought Lambert and Pink were rock(They are. Up yours, music snobs). Then there is Linkin Park, who despite any scorn hurled at them, continue producing albums that are snapped up by a legion of die hard fans. Which takes us to My Chemical Romance. The New Jersey band returned with a concept album about post-doomsday bandits, and a catchy track in the form of Na Na Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na). I am not qualified to talk about the urgency you feel in the album, but I totally dig the striking colours of their outfits.

Secrets - One Republic

The cello intro is divine, and the flow continues beautifully with Ryan Tedder's melodious voice throughout this ballad. But really folks, this song was huge because of radio airplay and our general good taste for good songs. Let's pat our back for that.

Like a G6 / Rocketeer - Far East Movement

Listen to "Like a G6" when you are high on red bull, and then repeat, repeat, repeat. It's merely sounds that make you feel good. Rocketeer is fun because of Ryan Tedder's voice--as if we expected anything less from him, right?

Raise Your Glass - P!nk

After 10 years on the music scene, P!nk continues to sing catchy tunes about life, and be the underdog. Remember "Don't Let Me Get Me" in back in 2002? This time, she sings "So raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways, all my underdogs..!" She once told a magazine that many people thought she would be wiped out of the pop radar with every new arrival of a girl singer. But here she is 10 years on. Still rocking and still rolling. When I grow up, I want to be P!nk.

If I Had You / Whataya Want From Me? - Adam Lambert:

It was the year of divas, and Adam Lambert razzled and dazzled both on stage and off. If he wasn't wowing audiences with powerful vocals, he was Twittering about protesters at his Malaysian concert. His appeal transcended genders (if not, why would a bunch of girls literally push me aside and screamed ecstatically when Lambert came on stage in Singapore in September? The guy induces mania, I tell ya) When not gyrating on stage, he touches our tormented hearts with the rock ballad Whataya Want From Me? The song's nominated for a Grammy, BTW. If I Had You, on the other hand is a great dance number, which sounds oh, so much sweeter live- check out the grungy guitar riffs and feel-good jumping up an downs during his Glamnation world tour. Mr Lambert, I solute you.

Teenage Dream/ Firework / California Gurls - Katy Perry:

This year, Miss Perry went from single white regular pop star to newlywed sex goddess. Music-wise, she scored an A+ for writing a song about going "all the way tonight" . Teenage Dream is probably her signature tune now, thanks to its honest account of love. Be sure to savour the song live as its acapella intro and rugged electric guitar is more pronounced. She wrote California Gurls as a response to Jay Z's Empire State of Mind- as a Californian, she wanted the West Coast to represent, y'all. The uplifting Firework, which is her third straight number one single on Billboard's Hot 100 is about empowerment. But instead of melodramatic cliches about self worth, she starts frankly: "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? Drifting through the wind.." That's the secret to her mass appeal: she's quirky, and it exudes confidence and sexiness. And her fashion sense? Whether she's coming out of a giant banana split in ballerina costume or sporting a blue wig with tight-fitting beachwear, Perry is music's latest fashion icon.

Love the Way You Lie - Eminem featuring Rihanna :

This song went viral all over radio and every music TV channel this year. Thanks to its catchy as hell chorus, people will forever and ever sing "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn..." The video was scorching hot with Megan Fox getting down and dirty with an abusive-ish boyfriend, (Dominic Monaghan from Lost and the Lord of the Rings trilogy). With all the kinky play on screen, it's easy to overlook Eminem, who was clearly exorcising some demons through song. Pain never sounded so good.

Other notable songs this year: Firefly by Owl City, Bad Romance by Lady Gag, On to the Next One by Jay Z

Well that's it.
