Gwen, Missy pull in several nods for annual video awards

Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "American Idiot" earned the veteran punk rockers eight 2005 MTV Video Music Award nominations, more than any other act, including a nod for Video of the Year for "Boulevard." Gwen Stefani and Missy Elliott are next with six nominations. The No Doubt frontwoman scored a Video of the Year nomination for "Hollaback Girl." Coldplay's "Speed of Sound," Kanye West's "Jesus Walks" and Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot" (featuring Pharrell) round out the nominees for the evening's biggest award.
U2's "Vertigo" helped the Irish rockers grab five nominations, while Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" helped Chris Martin and Co. earn four nods.

Rapper/music mogul P. Diddy will host the awards show, to be held in Miami on August 28th. Green Day, Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson are scheduled to perform.
