These are some of the best music in 2007

Signal Fire by Snow Patrol

The Scottish band came out with a dream-like wonderland of a hit, "Chasing Cars" in 2006. They followed that up with this balled from the Spiderman 3 soundtrack. It is a comforting song which could go well with any cold and rainy night.

Glamorous/Big Girls Don't Cry/Clumsy by Fergie

All hail the Dutchess. The Black Eyed Peas vocalist is nominated for a Best Pop Vocal performance Grammy for "Big Girls". And it is well-deserved. Besides the Divine Miss Beyonce, no other female made huge headlines for her songs this year.

Cupid's Chokehold by Gym Class Heroes

The infectious ba-da-da-da's were enough to make teenage girls scream. Coupled with heavy airplay on just about every Top 40 radio station, Gym Class Heroes cemented their status as cool "tattoo-ed rappers". Resistance is futile.

Gimme More by Britney Spears

Britney found time between her partying and starbucks ice-blendeds to record one of the catchiest techno dance albums of the year. Who would have thought that. Screw the critics and that wretched performance on the VMAs, Britney's music finally takes the centre stage again.

--Ayo Technology by 50 Cent featuring Justin Timberlake,
The Way I Are by Timbaland & Bigger Faster Stronger by Kanye West----

There was a very brief period this summer when songs started to have that techno, Daft-punk-ish flavour, as evident from the three songs above. 50 cent had an infectious collaboration with Timberlake on "Ayo", which was littered with techno references, albeit in a very hip-hop manner. Timbaland's "The Way I Are" had heavy doses of European dance beats. And of course, Mr Kanye had a lot of guts to infuse Daft Punk into his ego-trip "Stronger".

Candy Man by Christina Aquilera

Nine years after the big band and swing revival of 1998, Aguilera put on her dancing shoes and evoked a World War II era songstress, complete with baby girl blonde locks and sailor hat and sailor suit. It was one of the most refreshing tracks by a female this year.

Rehab by Amy Winehouse
