I took a break from the serious dramas that made up this year's Oscar nominees, and watched Fun with Dick and Jane. It was such a relief to watch a comedy. seriously all the Best Picture nominees this time are so heavy! What with Brokeback Mountain, Munich, Crash, Capote and Good Night and Good Luck- all being very serious movies portraying serious issues.
So it was nice to have some fun with DICK and JANE, a very wacky couple resorting to desperate measures after they both become jobless. In the hands of the comedy chameleon Jim Carrey and equally funny Tea Leoni, you can bet your ass on a rollin' good time at the movies (or in my case at home with the DVD player).
Dick Harper (Carrey) losses his job at billion-dollar agency gone bust, the same day his wife Jane (Leoni) decides to quit her shitty job in a travel agency.
Without work and having the possiblibity of eviction upon them, Dick decides attempts to rob a convenience store. Long story short, these guys end up enjoying their whole 'Bonnie and Clyde' moments. Watch out for the part where they dress up as Sonny and Cher!
Really folks, this is what movies are about. funny stuff with lots of dressing up.
Jim Carrey is fabulous as usual. He can never stop being funny and physical all in one. bUt that's the best thing about Carrey, he is extremely physical with his farce. His face and whole body are part of the joke.
Tea Leoni is one actress who is fearless when being funny. The movie reminds me of all the funny moments when she did The Naked Truth, a sitcom she did during the late 90s. I really like to watch the people in movies.
