Leavin' - Jesse McCartney

From its electronica bopping intro right to its breezy raggae-like groove, this pop song is a pure guilty pleasure. It is the current number one song on Billboard's radio airplay charts and Rick Dees's Weekly Top 40. That basically means it's a hit song on US radio. And every where else in the world, mind you. Is it cheesy? Yes. Is it bubble gum? Hell, yeah. But who says bubble gum pop can't be sexy. This is a good example. Up yours, music snobs!

I'm Yours - Jason Mraz

What's not to like about this song? Killer melodies and tight vocals from a person who may be the next white soul king. Plus, you hear it every hour on radioland. You will like it sooner or later (unless you're an android, dude). Jason Mraz burst onto the music world with his funky "The Remedy" five years ago. He also had a great follow-up to that song with "You and I Both". This new song, "I'm Yours", proves that nobody could put a good performer down. Best listened to with a cool drink and swaying coconut trees in the background.

That's What You Get - Paramore

Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams shines in this mid-tempo track taken from the band's debut disc, Riot. The song is not overly emo and not overly adult, which suits Paramore well , especially during this transition to their next album. I feel that they are trying less in this song, and sound more effortless--which is always the secret to a great song.

Shake It - Metro Station

Obviously, most of my favourite songs now are performed by very young artistes. Metro Station is one of these tween bands. Miley Cyrus' 19-year-old half brother, Trace is the band's vocalist, for God's sake. And of course they are friends with the Jonas Brothers (God, help me. I feel like a writer for Teen Bop magazine!)But ok, lah. Look beyond the background and just dig the music. "Shake It" is a cross between hyperactive, Red Bull-fuelled dance pop and radio-friendly rock. In other words, it's a f*#cking pop song. But heck, if all pop is like this, sign me up for the fan club. Check out the quirky music video on You Tube. Trace's bright red pants and the dance-off by different cliques of dancers will brighten up your day.

Empty - The Click Five

The tween dream is alive and kicking with this ballad from The Click Five. It's a soothing pop ballad. But it's the lyrics which sets it apart from other songs: "Tried to write a letter/ In ink /It's been getting better /I think..." That is a reflection of current times, man, especially with all the text messaging and email trends! Deep stuff.
